What is Wong Labs?
Wong Labs LLC builds software that we'd love to use ourselves — starting with Phantom Budget. We're a small, independent studio committed to staying small: without ads, data sales, or acquisition exits.
What does “anti-acquisition” mean?
We're not interested in selling Wong Labs or our products to a private equity firm or being acquired by a larger company. No private equity. No acquisition. Our products are designed to stay independent so we can keep building for users, not for an exit.
How is this sustainable for a solo developer?
By staying small, charging fairly for products people value, and refusing revenue models that depend on tracking users or selling data. A sustainable independent business means we can keep shipping and supporting products for the long term — without needing a large team or an acquisition to “succeed.”
What products does Wong Labs build?
Phantom Budget is our flagship product — a personal finance app that helps you create a monthly budget, track spending in real time, and build better money habits. Meeterboard shows what meetings really cost with a live per-second tally from Levels.fyi pay data. Other projects are in the works under codenames Mos Eisley and Star City.
How is Wong Labs different from other software companies?
What sets us apart is a commitment to privacy and a commitment to remain a private company and never sell your data. We build paid products with no free tier to subsidize — so we have no incentive to monetize users through tracking or third-party data sales.
Why no free tier?
That's an important feature, not a limitation. Without a free tier, we have no incentive to seek other revenue streams like apps that monetize free users by tracking them or selling their data to third parties. Instead, we offer a generous free trial period and a fair price for the product.
Is my data private?
Yes. We never sell your personal or financial information to third parties. Privacy is built into how we design and operate our products — and our business model reinforces that commitment.
